This UltraEdge dog clipper blade, made from high-carbon steel and processed through a unique carburizing heat treatment that adds carbon to the metal, is designed for the finishing and blending of terriers. The increased carbon content results in a harder cutting surface, allowing the blades to maintain a razor-sharp edge that endures prolonged use and more sharpening treatments.

The blades are sharpened to exact quality standards and hand-tested before shipping. It is recommended to oil the blade set at least once a day, preferably before every grooming session. After oiling, any excess oil should be wiped off the external surfaces with a soft, dry cloth to reduce the possibility of getting it on the animal's coat.

If the clipper blades leave streaks or slow down, it's a clear indication that the blades need oiling. To oil the blades, a few drops of blade oil should be applied to the front and side of the cutter blades, and the excess oil should be wiped off with a soft, dry cloth. Spray lubricants, while effective as a clipper blade coolant, do not provide sufficient oil for proper lubrication.

Cleaning the blades is also important. The blades should be immersed in a shallow pan of clipper oil or blade cleaner while the clipper is running. After cleaning, the clipper should be turned off, and the blades should be dried with a clean, dry cloth. If the blades still do not cut effectively, there may be some hair trapped between the upper and lower blades. In this case, the blade should be removed from the clipper, and the upper blade should be slid to one side without loosening the tension spring or moving the upper blade completely out from under the tension spring. The surfaces of the blades should then be wiped clean with a dry cloth, and a drop of clipper oil should be placed where the upper and lower blades meet and in the guide slot of the tension spring.

This UltraEdge dog clipper blade comes in a size-5 skip tooth with a 1/4-inch cut length, measuring 4-4/5 inches in length, 3-1/2 inches in width, and 1-1/2 inches in height. It is compatible with Andis, Conair, Oster, and Wahl detachable-style clippers and is made of carbon-infused steel with a chrome finish that resists rust. This skip-tooth blade is sometimes used for a short finish on the back of a West Highland White Terrier and can also be used on its edge for a raking effect to blend the coat, with a Rockwell hardness rating of 65.
